Johnny was a 1960 graduate of SGA High School. He became the owner/operator of Goldberg's Furniture, employing people all throughout Burke County. He was a family-oriented supervisor that made sure his employees and customers were always treated well.He was presently a realtor with Meybohm Real Estate. He was also a member of the Waynesboro Exchange Club as well as First United Methodist Church. Within the church, he was board chairman of the Administrative Council, chairman of the Staff Parrish Relations (SPR) Committee, a member of the Finance committee, and was currently serving as member at large on the church council committee.
He continued to support the community by serving on the Burke County Public School Board of Education for 43 years, 42 of which he held the position of chairman. Burke County residents all agree that he always made decisions based on the best interest of the children and the people within the schools. The board members will sincerely miss his welcoming voice calling the meetings to order, and all of Burke County will miss his influence, his inspiration, and the pure love and acceptance he showed to every individual.
While it is hard to watch the eyes close on such a beautiful soul, it is important to remember that he held so much life that it will be carried on in every person that had the honor to have met him. He was known for his amazing hugs and his soothing voice. He was the one to go to when in need of guidance, acceptance, or raw inspiration. He seemed to know the answer to every question and how to solve problems that seemed to have no solution. He carried the weight of Burke County on his shoulders and made it seem like the equivalent to a dove's feather.
All of Burke County are in shambles to see him amongst the clouds, but he will forever live within our hearts. May his last cruise be one worth the wait that is filled with all the smiles, laughter, and peace that John "Johnny" Miller Jenkins brought to this world.
