Augusta, GA.- John Ernest Mundy III passed away on April 13th, 2012, at the age of 71 at his home in Augusta. John was born May 29th, 1940 in Greenwood, SC to Mary Maxwell Miller Mundy and John Ernest Mundy, Jr.
At the age of six John moved to Waynesboro, GA where in high school he was medalist in the Georgia High School Golf Championship as a ninth grader and played on the 1957 Waynesboro High School State Champion football team, receiving All State honors as a tight end. John graduated from University of Georgia in 1962, where he was initiated into Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He was honorably discharged as First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army after two years of active duty in Germany.
In 1970 John married Debra Cecille Crow of Mobile, AL, who survives him. Other survivors include a daughter, Mary Maxwell Mundy Miller and her husband John William Miller II of Atlanta; a son John Ernest Mundy IV and his wife Anna Christine Dormon Mundy of Augusta; a brother Dr. Thomas Maxwell Mundy of Wake Forest, NC; and three grandchildren, John William Miller III, Price Balford Miller and Mary Hilton Miller of Atlanta.
An avid golfer, John was a member of Augusta Country Club, the golf association A6A, and former member of Augusta Golf Association. He served Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church on the diaconate, as elder and church treasurer. He was president and third generation owner of Mundy, Inc., an 81-year-old family agri-business in Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends at their home on Monday, April 16th from 5:00 until 7:00 PM. A memorial service officiated by the Rev. Dr. Robert Leslie Holmes will be held at Waynesboro First United Methodist Church, 802 N. Liberty St. at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 17th with interment to follow at Magnolia Cemetery, West Sixth St. Pallbearers are Richard H. Crow, Robert J. Crow, J. Carr Holland III, A. Sidney Newton, Arthur Strong, and Eugene Chance. Honorary pallbearers are members of the A6A golf association.
