Waynesboro, GA. -John J. Broseghini, Jr. "Jay" "Lil John" entered his final rest Monday, October 28, 2013. To honor his wishes, he will be cremated.
He was born on January 7, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois. He was married to and divorced from Ann Broseghini. Together they had four children (Joanne Broseghini, Carol Warren, Linda Miller, and John J., III). He graduated from St. John Bocso Catholic High School after which he served an apprenticeship and worked as a tool & die maker. He entered the Army becoming 1st Sergeant and was a Purple Heart recipient during the Korean War. He lived in Colorado Springs then moved to Davenport, FL in 1984. After the Korean War he became an Owner/Operator and drove Tractor/Trailer for 35 years, leasing over the years to Navajo, J & J Cattle Co., and Leprino Transportation. He met and married his soulmate, Mary K. "Kathy" Wilson in 1985 and they were together 30 years at the time of his death. He and Kathy drove the Tractor/Trailer for 12 years together as a team until he retired and they sold their truck in 1995. He worked part-time in Florida as an AARP Driving Instructor,I-4 Road Ranger and as a Shuttle Driver for Sheraton Vistana Villages until he fully retired in 2007 and moved to Waynesboro, GA. Jay was an avid motorcycle rider and at one time did the announcing of flat-track motorcycle races in Kansas and Nebraska. He traveled to various motorcycle rallies throughout the USA & Canada over the years, including the 50th Sturgis, South Dakota and the 50th Daytona, Florida rallies. He and Kathy shipped a BMW motorcycle to Holland in 1996 and toured eight different countries for thirty days before returning to the United States. He also enjoyed being a cowboy and had several horses. He did calf roping, trail competition, and hunted elk in Western Colorado on horseback. While living in Florida he enjoyed volunteering at Give Kids The World where he portrayed various costumed characters such as a giant rabbit named Mayor Clayton who was the mayor of Give Kids The World. He also portrayed a leprechaun, Uncle Sam, and a train engineer and really enjoyed working with the children. After moving to Waynesboro, GA. he joined the Sheriff's Prayer Breakfast; American Legion Post #120; Sacred Heart Catholic Church; Baptist Church BALL Club; Knights of Columbus Council # 8495; Burke County Old Fella Animal Rescue; and The Patriot Guard Riders Motorcycle Group. He was one of the first five members of the COP (Citizens on Patrol) group started by the city of Waynesboro which was the first of its kind in Georgia.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, John J. and Felicia Broseghini; daughter, Joanne Broseghini; and brother, Ronald Broseghini.
He is survived by his wife, Mary K. "Kathy" Wilson Broseghini; daughters, Linda Miller (Ian) of Scottsdale, AZ, Carol Warren of Mesa, AZ; and son, John J. Broseghini, III of Colorado. He is also survived by two step-sons, Rick L. Richards (Karry) of State College, PA, and William E. Richards of Fort Myers, FL; three grandchildren; five step grandchildren; two great grandchildren and step great grandchildren; brother, Albert Broseghini (Rozanna) of Aiken, SC; and cousins, Frank Broseghini (Marilyn) of Kirksville, MO, and Perry Joe Broseghini (Kibby) of Novinger, MO.
Visitation: 9:00 am – 10:30 am Saturday, November 9, 2013 at DeLoach-McKerley Funeral Home. His final motorcycle ride will be escorted from DeLoach-McKerley Funeral Home to Sacred Heart Catholic Church by the Patriot Guard Riders Motorcycle Group.
MemorialMass and Celebration of Life: 11:00 am Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waynesboro.
Honorary Pallbearers will be American Legion Post #120 and members of Knights of Columbus Council #8495.
