Waynesboro, GA- Judge Jerry Mallard Daniel, 70, entered into rest late Thursday evening January 30, 2014 at his home. He was born March 10, 1943 to the late James Carswell "Moody" Daniel and Lorraine Mallard Daniel. He was a graduate of Georgia Southern University and later graduated from Walter F. George School of Law. In the late 1960's, Jerry started his career as an attorney in Waynesboro. He served as Recorder's Court Judge for the city of Waynesboro. In 2000, he was elected State Court Judge in which he served until his death. Jerry was very proud to have started the DUI Court. He also started the Mental Health and Family Violence Courts. All three courts served as models for other courts throughout the state. He strongly supported family violence victims and was an advocate for veteran and veteran affairs. Jerry was a native and lifelong resident of Burke County. He was a member of Rosemont Heights Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Robert Daniel.
He leaves behind a longtime friend and ex wife, Betty White; 2 children, James R. Daniel of Phoenix, AZ and Anne Kathryn Daniel of FL.; 3 grandchildren; 1 brother, Jack Daniel of Kingsport, TN; 1 aunt, Pauline Tucker of Savannah, GA; and his beloved French bulldog, "Will".
The family will receive friends from 4-7pm Saturday, February 1 at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be 3pm Sunday, February 2 at Rosemont Heights Baptist Church, 710 Stone St. Waynesboro, GA 30830. Interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Waynesboro. Rev. Wes Lawson and Rev. Keith Alderman will officiate. Pallbearers will be Bill Fleming, Mike Popplewell, Jackson Cox, Danny Meeks, Willie Roy Williams, Senator Jesse Stone, Cecil Hickman, and Judge Preston Lewis III. Honorary Pallbearers will be Sheriff Greg Coursey, Walter Degenhardt, Clint Meeks, Jack Williams, Charles Dozier, Rep. Gloria Frazier, Sherri Cochran, Dr. Lamar Murray, Dr. Mark Thigpen, Rev. Roger Lane, Leslie Padgett, Freddie Taylor, and all judges and members of the Augusta Judicial Bar.
