Hephzibah, Ga.- James W. Self "Tater", 79, entered into rest, late Thursday evening, December 4, 2008, at his home. He was born July 10, 1929 in Richmond County, to the late Charlie Jackson Self and Maggie Marie James Self. He retired from Murray Biscuit Co. after serving for over 35 years. Mr. Self was a Past Master of the Richmond Lodge #412, a member of the Scottish Rites, Order of the Eastern Star, and York Rite. Mr. Self will always be remembered as a devoted and loving husband and father.He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Gleason Self, and a son, Sammy Diaz.
He is survived by eight children, Frankie Diaz (Penny) of North Carolina; Linda Holbrooks (Kenny) of Matthews, GA; Jackie Self of Augusta; Marie Taylor (Bobby) of Martinez, GA, Billy Diaz of Nashville, TN, Brenda Blitchington (Steve) of Augusta, Margaret Story (Phillip) of Hephzibah, and Kathleen Mason (Eddie) of Modoc, SC; daughter-in-law, Eli Diaz of Elberton, GA; two sisters, Ruth McDaniel (Fred) of Augusta, and Mary Bartlett of Evans; twenty grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2008, at DeLoach Funeral Home, Hephzibah.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, December 7, 2008, in the Chapel of DeLoach Funeral Home, Hephzibah.Interment will follow (with Masonic Rites) at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery, 3965 Deans Bridge Road, Hephzibah, GA.Pallbearers will be Mr. James Self's Masonic brothers.
