Waynesboro-Mr. James Martin Saxon 79, entered into rest Saturday, December 9, 2017 at his residence. Mr. Saxon was a native and a lifelong resident of Burke County. He was a retired engineer with the Georgia Department of Transportation, member of Piney Grove Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for many years. To his family he was a loving, generous father, grandfather, spiritual leader, fishing buddy, fixit man and hero.
He was preceded in death by his parents Wesley and Mae Saxon and his brother-in-law, Broadus Carter.
Surviving are, his wife Marie Long Saxon, his children, Glenn Saxon and wife Kris, Sheron Thigpen and husband Mike, Wesley Saxon and wife, Bianca and Alan Saxon and wife Kim; his grandchildren, Cory and Tyler Cooper, Jessica Thigpen, Carly Saxon, Clint Saxon, Haley Saxon and JT Newton, Justin Thigpen, Madison Saxon, Abby Saxon, Scott Saxon and Cal Saxon; his great grandson, Weston Newton; his siblings, Ray and Sara Saxon, Elaine Carter, Roy and JoAnn Long, Robert and Barbara Long and a beloved friend Doris Kelly.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 10, 2017 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at DeLoach-McKerley-Prescott Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, December 11, 2017 at Piney Grove Baptist Church with the Reverend Mark Joyner officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
Active Pallbearers will be Al Nelson, Chris Nelson, Chris Golden, Mike Hood, Ted Collins and Terry Syms.
