Waynesboro-Mr. Jimmy Nichols, 92, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 25, 2015, at University Hospital in Augusta GA.
Mr. Nichols was born in Tuskahoma, Oklahoma and was a resident of Bakersfield, California. He joined and served in Patton's Third Army in World War II. At the end of the war, Mr. Nichols was discharged at Fort Gordon and visited with lifelong friend Jack Bailey, an army colleague and native of Vidette, GA. Mr. Nichols met and married Gloria Glisson, Lawson Glisson, Sr.'s oldest daughter and the love of his life. He has been a resident of Waynesboro since 1947.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Waynesboro, where he had served as Treasurer, served on the Administrative Board and the Trustee's Committee. He was a member of the Older Adult Sunday School Class at First Presbyterian Church. He also was a member of the Exchange Club of Waynesboro, a charter member of the Waynesboro Lion's Club, and a member of American Legion Post 120 in Waynesboro. Mr. Nichols served as vice-president and loan officer for the Bank of Waynesboro, Senior Vice President of the First National Bank and worked for Zip's Office Supply.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Glisson Nichols.
Surviving are his children, J. Richard "Rick" Nichols and wife Leigh of Eatonton GA, William "Bill" Nichols and wife Valerie of Holland MI, and Suzanne Reeves of Waynesboro; his grandchildren, Kathryn Tribble, Lauren Reeves; and one great-granddaughter, Aubrey Tribble.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2015 at First Methodist Church in Waynesboro with the Reverend Craig Hutto officiating. Burial to follow in Burke Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Active Pallbearers will be Henry Glisson, Melvin Mobley, Lawson Glisson, Rudy Glisson, Greg Coursey and Johnny Jenkins.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Older Adult Sunday School Class and the American Legion Post 120.
Remembrances may be made to the First Methodist Church building fund.
