Girard, GA- James "Jimmy" Malabar Dixon, 83, entered into rest Sunday, February 23, 2020. He was the son of the late Ruth and Malabar Dixon. He was born in Americus, GA and was a lifelong resident of Burke County. He was a graduate of Carlisle Military School. Jimmy was a retired farmer and was an honorary member of American Legion Post 120. He served as a County Commissioner for 14 ½ years, eight of those years as Chairman. Jimmy was a member of Rosemont Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Bobby Dixon.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joanne Murray Dixon; his son, Rick Dixon of Girard; his daughter, Joni Dixon Ferguson (Jeff) of Dallas, GA; five grandchildren, Justin Dixon (Kimberly), Josh Ferguson (Rachael), James Dixon (Hilary), Jordyn Kerr (Ben), and Alyssa Dixon Bailey; and numerous great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5:00pm to 8:00pm Wednesday, February 26 at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be 11:00am Thursday, February 27 at Rosemont Baptist Church with Rev Wes Lawson officiating. Burial will follow at Sardis Baptist Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Justin Dixon, Josh Ferguson, James Dixon, Ben Kerr, Randy Black, Randy Chandler, and Mike Chandler. Honorary pallbearers will be Grady Mobley, Fred Roberts, Wayne Dixon, Buddy Leger, Gerald Murray, Roy Cates, and Dr. Walter Voyles.
