Sardis, GA - James Jefferson Godbee, 65, entered into rest on Thursday, January 27, 2011, at Burke Medical Center.He was born on July 15, 1945 in Millen, GA to the late Oscar Jefferson Godbee and Naomi Lou Holland Godbee.He worked at Perfection Schwank in Waynesboro and then as a city worker in Sardis until his retirement.He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Alexander for over forty years.He was preceded in death by a son, Brian Godbee, and two brothers, Monroe and Grady Godbee.
He is survived by two children, Christy Lea Godbee-Awe (Lynne) of Lake Suzy, FL and Michael Paul Godbee of Waynesboro; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Todd Mylar of Tucson, AZ, Sarah Elizabeth Mylar of Lake Suzy, FL, and Dillon Lee Awe Perez of Lake Suzy, FL; his former wife, Mary Godbee of Waynesboro; two sisters-in-law, Doris Godbee of Augusta and Peggy Godbee of Girard; nephew, Jeff Godbee of Port Orange, FL; and niece, Laurie Godbee Slowinsky of Sylvania, GA.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 29, at the funeral home.
The Graveside Service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 30, at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Matt Shryock officiating.Honorary pallbearers will be Vonnie Hance, Charlie Hillis, Herbert Hillis, Joe Ellison, Glenn Kilpatrick, Mike Chance, Gary Jenkins, and Herman Hamilton.
