James H. "PAPA" Pountain Sr., 74, died Thursday, January 27, 2022 at his residence. He was a native of Kalamazoo, Michigan and grew up in Portage, Michigan. He has been a resident of Burke County since 2000. He was a United States Veteran, serving 14 years in the Army, serving in Vietnam, and serving six additional years in the Army National Guard before retiring after 20 years serving his county. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and jack of all trades and a master to none.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Beulah Pountain; and his brother, Jerry H. Pountain.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Geraldine "MEMA" Pountain of Waynesboro; daughter, Jinovanna L. Gambrell of Waynesboro; son, James H. Pountain Jr. of Clinton, SC; brother, Jack L. Pountain Jr. of Transverse MI; sister, Judy Pountain of Kalamazoo, MI; six grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and a grand number of stray kids.

Funeral Services will be 5 p.m. Monday, January 31, 2022, in the DeLoach-McKerley-Prescott Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
