James M. Gray, Sr.

He is survived by one daughter, Betty J. Gray Broome (Ricky) of Blythe; brother, Bufford Gray (Vallie) of Augusta; two sisters, Marion Askew (Doc) of Vidette and Nellie Pizzie of New Orleans, LA; three grandsons, Vernon W. Broome III (Lisa), James M. Gray III (Michael), and David L. Gray (Stephanie); five great-grandchildren, Justin B. Broome, Anna, Trish, Gracann, and Danielle; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Betty Council.
He was a life-long resident of Richmond County and a member of Blythe Baptist Church.He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army.He worked for Babcox & Wilcox for 40 years.He was the American Legion Post 150 leader for many years.He served on the Blythe City Council for 35 years.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, at DeLoach Funeral Home, Hephzibah.
Mr. Gray will lie-in-state from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, at Blythe Baptist Church.Funeral Services will begin at 3:00 p.m.Rev. Richard Dendler and Rev. Jerry Cole will be officiating.Interment will follow at the church cemetery.Military honors will be rendered.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Blythe Baptist Church Building Fund, 2010 County Line Road, Blythe, GA30805.
