Waynesboro, GA- Mr. James Edward Cates, Jr. "Papa Cates", 74, entered into rest Monday, April 24, 2017. He was born in Burke County on August 11, 1942, to the late James Edward Cates, Sr. and Juanita Moore Cates and had lived most of his life in Waynesboro. He was a former employee of Brown's Transport. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Roger Cates and a grandson, Justin Tyler Callison.
He is survived by his daughter, Cindy Royal (Donnie) of Waynesboro; Cindy's mother, Linda Britto of Perkins; two granddaughters, Jessica Black (George) of Waynesboro and Katelyn Williams of Waynesboro; four great grandchildren, Skylar Williams, Bailey Black, Ty Black, and Garrett Black; three brothers, Chester Cates of Newnan, GA, Phillip Cates of Tyrone, GA, and Reggie Cates of Gainesville, GA; a special friend, Josh Blackstone, Jr. of Waynesboro; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be 2:00pm Thursday, May 4 in the DeLoach-McKerley-Prescott Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Butch Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
