Irma "Lorie" Williams

McBean, GA – Mrs. Irma "Lorie" Williams, 73, entered into rest Monday, September 26, 2016. She was born on May 23, 1943, in Augusta and was a lifelong resident of this area. She was a daughter of the late James and Edith Boynton. Lorie was a graduate of Hephzibah High School. She married John O. Williams on January 5, 1962. She volunteered at the VA Hospital for 47 years. She was a member of AMVETS Auxiliary for 50 years and has severed as Local President, Past Department of GA President, and National Executive Chairwoman. Lorie dedicated her life to helping the underprivileged and veterans.

She ran a food bank for many years to help feed anyone in need. In her younger years, she worked with her dad and then her brother selling watermelons on Hwy 56 at McCombs Rd. She was awarded the Giving Your Best Award given by News Channel 6.

She spent her time serving her community in political action and was a chairperson of the Housing Authority for several years. She helped get the McBean Senior Center and Programs started. She was an active member of the Pride and Progress Committee for South Augusta. She was an avid Braves fan for many years.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years, John O. Williams, Sr.; two grandchildren, Eric Logan Westmoreland and Kristi Allison Lincoln; a brother, James Clint Boynton, Jr.; and son-in-law, Frederick Klein.

She is survived by four children, DeLois Klein of McBean, Irma Westmoreland (James) of McBean, Edith Arrington (Phillip) of McBean, John Williams, Jr. (Tina) of Hephzibah; ten grandchildren, Raven Klein of McBean, Jennifer Little of Savannah, Jessica Theiman (Dan) of Savannah, Jennifer Oliver (Jimmy) of McBean, Debra Westmoreland of Augusta, Dorothy Beardsley (Jay) of Vermont, Jamie Westmoreland II (Tracey) of Richmond, VA, Michaels Dees (Brittany) of McBean, Toni Greenway (William) of Hephzibah, and Rebecca Williams of Hephzibah; ten great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Shawn, Ashley, Taylor, Madison, Kacie, Katie, Payton, Jada, and Ellen; and one great great granddaughter, Briella.

The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Tuesday, Sept 27 at the funeral home.

Funeral Services will be 3pm Wednesday, Sept 28 at Piney Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Tinley Cemetery (Tebow Rd. Hephzibah, GA). Pallbearers will be William Greenway, James Williams, Daniel Oliver, Casey Scott, Shane French, Mike Williams, and Jeremy Tinley. Honorary Pallbearers will be AMVETS Auxiliary members.
