Hershel William "Buddy" Oglesby, Sr.
Sardis-Hershel William "Buddy" Oglesby, Sr. loving husband of 22 years to Tina Louise Eskew Oglesby entered into rest Friday morning April 24, 2015 at his home in Sardis, Georgia, surrounded by his loving family.
Buddy was educated in the Sardis-Girard-Alexander School.
His working career included self-employment and City Manager for the town of Sardis until he retired due to health reasons. Buddy will be remembered in Sardis as the "Handy Man." He would do anything he could for anybody, never meeting at stranger. He inspired and motivated many around him with his actions, words and his love for God and people.
His friends and family will cherish the years of cheer and joy he brought to each life he inspired and touched. Buddy passed along his zest for life and belief in the Golden Rule to his sons. He always advised people to be true to themselves, find out what they wanted to do, and do it.
One of Buddy's favorite past timeswas spent with his family at the river fishing, returning home to clean and cook the fish, and invite friends over to eat and enjoy the fellowship.
Buddy has fought the good fight, finished the race, kept the faith and now is enjoying the presence of God, as he waits the reunionwith his family and friends.
The town of Sardis will never be as bright as it was without the many contributions that Buddy Oglesby made. Even after his death, the memory of his many deeds will remain.
In addition to his wife Tina, Buddy is survived by his sons Hershel William Oglesby, Jr. "Buddy" and Carlton Ivan Oglesby.
Buddy's deceased parents were Hershel Doyle Oglesby and Dorothy Stevens. Later in life, Buddy was raised by Geneva and Pete Dixon.
Also surviving are his sisters, Becky Hanscom, Brenda Walden, Patty Martin, Darlene Bressi and Tammy Gelis; his mother-in-law Pam Laster, and his fur baby, Moses.
A Memorial Service will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 27, 2015 at the Sardis United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Service.
