Mr. Herbert L. DeLaigle 94, Retired Master Sergeant United States Army entered into rest and went to be with his Lord on Friday, July 12, 2019. Mr. Delaigle was born in Telfairville, Ga. to the late Casper Gaston and Lillie Bargeron DeLaigle. Prior to his death he was the oldest living DeLaigel
Mr. DeLaigle was a retired Master Sergeant United States Army serving in WWII, Korea and Vietnam after 22 years of service. He received the National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal six times. He was assigned to the 500th Field Artillery Batteryin Munich, Germany when first went into service, later assigned to 20th Armored Division before returning home.In 1950 he joined the National Guard, his unit was mobilized for the Korean Conflict, after two years he re-enlisted in the United States Army and went to Vietnam, and after his tour there he returned home and retired from the Army in 1970. After his retirement he attended Augusta Tech, North Georgia Tech and Attended University of Georgia for one year. He later went to work in security at Plant Vogtle. He worked alongside his wife at Marilyn's Nursery, he enjoyed fishing, carpentry and raising a variety of farm animals. He enjoyed writing and vacationing out West with his family.
Mr. DeLaigle was married to Mrs. Marilyn DeLaigle for 71 years who joined him in eternal rest 12 hours after his passing.
Surviving are his children, Herbert J. DeLaigle and wife JoAnn of Newport News, VA., Renee D. Rowell of Waynesboro, Donald L. DeLaigle and wife Patti of Waynesboro, Edwin P. DeLaigle and wife Teresa of Homer, Ga., Helen Iris DeLaigle of Martinez and James M. DeLaigle and wife Connie of Enoch Utah; 16 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 14, 2019 from 5 p.m. to7 p.m. at DeLoach-McKerley-Prescott Funeral Home.
Funeral Services for Mr. DeLaigle and Mrs. DeLaigle will be 2 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2019 at Botsford Baptist Church with Reverend Andy Allen and Reverend Mike Dann officiating. Burial will follow in the Botsford Baptist Church Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
