Helen Fulford Palmer

August 30, 1942 — March 6, 2024

Helen Fulford Palmer, age 81, the wife of the late George Palmer of Waynesboro, GA, went to her heavenly home on March 6, after a brief illness. Helen was born in Alamo, Georgia to the late Sherman Albert Fulford Sr., and Bertha Moran Fulford. Helen and George were married for 58 years and made Burke County their home in 1962 when George transferred to the area with his employer, Union Camp. Helen worked for Georgia Farm Bureau for 30 years, retiring in 2002. They were both committed to serving their family, one another, and their community.

Helen was industrious, determined, and led with a servant’s heart. She was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone in need. She loved creating and working with her hands, and ensured her family and friends were the center of her world throughout her life. It is quite possible that Helen was the largest fan of the Christmas season in Burke County. Early each fall, you could find Helen beginning her Christmas preparations, decorations, and crafts. She had numerous talents, including her love of ceramics, with 2024 marking her 50th year as a ceramics instructor at Burke County Recreation Department. She taught and served generations in the community in this role, which gave her immense joy.

Helen is survived by a son, George Jeffrey “Rusty” Palmer (Lisa) of Evans; two daughters, Tina Palmer Bozeman (William) of Germanton, NC, and Hannah Palmer Shadwick (Clayton) of Waynesboro GA. Her five grandchildren were her heart and include Grant and Claire Palmer; Ivy Palmer and Mila Bozeman; and Wesley Shadwick. Helen is survived by two brothers, Billy Fulford and Tony Fulford, and one sister, Mary Ann McGee. She is preceded in death by two brothers, S.A. Fulford, Jr., and Johnny Thomas Fulford.

Funeral Services will be at Rosemont Baptist Church on Sunday, March 10, at 3pm, followed by the burial at Burke Memorial Gardens. Visitation will take place at the church at 2pm, right before the service.

Pallbearers will be Stafford Vickrey, W.H. Reddick, Jerry Richardson, David Bowles, Ivan Heatwole, and Dr. Johnny Christian.
