Harold Sidney Ritchie

April 21, 1924 — October 8, 2009

Port Wentworth, GA.- Mr. Harold Sidney Ritchie, 85, formerly of Port Wentworth, and currently residing in Hephzibah, entered into rest Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Amara Healthcare in Augusta, GA. He was born and raised in Prichard, Alabama. Harold proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He was part of the crew that was aboard the USS Mississenewa, an oil supply ship that was sunk by the Japanese. Harold was employed by Ruberoid which later became GAF Corp. He started his career with this company in Mobile, AL, and retired in Pt. Wentworth.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Mildred Ritchie; son & daughter in law, John and Laurie Ritchie, of Hephzibah, GA.; daughter, Christine Taylor, of Springfield, GA.; three grandsons, Justin Ritchie, and Jason Beverly, both of Washington D.C.; Capt. Matthew Ritchie and his wife Meredith, of Oahu, HI.; one granddaughter, Amanda Roller, of Savannah; three great grandsons, Bennett Matthew Ritchie, John Oliver Ritchie, and Breylon Essien Zellars.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday, October 12, 2009 at Hephzibah Baptist Church. Reverend Danny McGill will be officiating. A dinner for family and friends will follow in the reception hall.
