Gerald Ray Saxon

Gerald “Ray” Saxon, 83, of Waynesboro went to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, September 29, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Ray was a devoted husband and father who prioritized his family above all else. He was an active member of Piney Grove Baptist Church, where he served tirelessly in various capacities, from teaching Sunday School to serving as a deacon.  He will be remembered as a source of spiritual strength and inspiration, always ready to offer a helping hand or a word of encouragement.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wesley Saxon; mother, Mae Saxon; sister, Elaine Carter; brother, Martin Saxon; grandson, Brad Nelson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Sara McClain Saxon, and his three daughters Carlene Nelson (Al), Sonya Lewis (Clifford), and Paige Braithwaite (Bob). He was a cherished grandfather of Chris Nelson (Jessica), Laney Davis (Hunter), Gray Hardy (Mark), Chase Braithwaite, Ali Braithwaite, and Cole Lewis and great-grandchild, Colson Hardy.

The family would like to thank Dr. Sanders for all of his kindness and medical expertise.

Visitation will be held on October 2nd from 5 -7 PM at DeLoach-McKerley-Prescott Funeral Home in Waynesboro, Georgia. Service will be held October 3rd at 11 AM at Piney Grove Baptist Church of McBean, Georgia. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The Pallbearers are; Glenn Saxon, Wesley Saxon, Alan Saxon, Rickey Hayes, Mike Hood, and Mitch Newsome
