Gerald Ann Clayton, 66, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, after a short illness. She was born on February 19, 1955, to the late Alvin H. McClain and Clara Bell Oliver McClain. She was a retired Benefits Manager with the Georgia Department of Veterans Service, where she devoted 34 years to serving the veterans in her community. She was a member of Dry Branch Baptist Church.
In addition to her father, Gerald was preceded in death by her husband, David E. Clayton, Sr.; a brother, William "Bill" McClain; and two brothers-in-law, Glynn Bassett and Curtis Clayton.Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Evan Martin of Waynesboro; a son and daughter-in-law, David, Jr. and Ashley Clayton of Alexander; and her mother, Clara Bell McClain of Alexander.
Brothers and sister-in-law: Al and Louise McClain and Mark McClain all of Alexander; Sisters and brother-in-law: Gail Bassett of Perkins and Karen and Johnny Lovett of Alexander.
Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Tommy and Susan Clayton of Statesboro, Monnie, Jr. and Angie Clayton of Waynesboro, Melvin and Rita Clayton of Waynesboro, Brenda Wolfe of North Augusta, and Angie Clayton of Sardis.
She was affectionately known as GaGa to six grandchildren: Clayton Anderson, Blake Howard, Ethan Martin, Natalee Clayton, David Clayton III, and Caroline Clayton. She was loved by numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside Services will be held 3:00 pm Friday, September 24 at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Tim Fields officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
