George Palmer, of Waynesboro, GA, age 77, beloved husband of Helen Palmer, was called home from labor to reward on Thursday, September 17, 2020. He was a native of Soperton and has been a resident of Burke County since 1964. He had a strong work ethic and was very involved in the community.A man of many talents and interests, he enjoyed making cane syrup, gardening, barbecuing, golfing, fishing, and woodworking. He coached sports at Burke County Recreation Department for over 20 years.An avid football fan, he announced football games for Edmund Burke Academy for over 30 years.Even after "retirement", he enjoyed working at Salter Building Supply, Blanchard Equipment Company, and the Waynesboro Country Club. He was a good Christian man and a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents Estelle and J. B. Palmer.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen Palmer; a son, George Jeffery "Rusty" Palmer (Lisa) of Evans; two daughters, Tina Palmer Bozeman (William) of Germanton, NC and Hannah Palmer of Waynesboro; two sisters, Joyce Palmer of Vidalia, GA and Peggy Cox (Harold) of Soperton, GA; a brother, Charles Palmer (Faye) of Rockledge, GA; four grandchildren, Grant and Claire Palmer; Ivy Palmer and Mila Bozeman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be at Rosemont Baptist Church Monday, September 21 at 3:00 pm with Rev. Bruce Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church two hours prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Stafford Vickrey, Emory Walden, James Morris, Roy Jenkins, Danny Meeks, and Johnny C.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Gene Scott, W.H. Reddick, Will Rowland, Dr. Johnny Christian, Jerry Richardson, Phillip Blanchard, Kim Clarke, Dickey McClellan, Lon Hankinson, and Nick DeLaigle.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rosemont Baptist Church Vision Fund or EBA Athletic Program.
