Ernest W. Whitton

April 10, 1920 — January 1, 2013

Augusta, GA- Ernest W. "Ernie" Whitton, 92, entered into rest Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at his residence. He was a veteran of the US Army Air Forces having served during WWII. He worked as an airplane mechanic at Garrett Aviation in Augusta for many years. Ernie was a member of the American Legion in Augusta and was a member of the Masonic Lodge 274 in Waynesboro where he recently received his 50-year certificate. He was preceded in death by two wives, Avis Boughton Whitton in 1967, and Helma Worst Whitton in 2006, and a sister, Margaret "Peggy" Whitton.

Surviving family members include two children, Danny Whitton, and Suzanne Daniel (Bycel), both of Waynesboro, three grandchildren, Ronald Daniel (Karen), of Roswell, GA., Deneen Griffin (Bruce), of Martinez, Brenda McCrary (Fielding), of Augusta, six great grandchildren, Adam and Kelly Daniel, Ellen and Kate Griffin, and Elizabeth and Julianne McCrary.

Visitation: Saturday, January 5, from 5:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home.

Funeral Service: Sunday, January 6, at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Rev. Wes Lawson will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Vision Fund at Rosemont Heights Baptist Church, 710 Stone Ave. Waynesboro, GA. 30830.
