Emily Bazemore Lee

July 7, 1933 — September 1, 2018

Alexander, GA - Emily Bazemore Lee, 85, died early Saturday morning, September 1 2018, at Brentwood Rehabilitation and Health Center in Waynesboro, where she was under hospice care after an extended illness.

Born July 7, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Hollis and Minnie Taylor Bazemore of Sylvania. She was the lone survivor of seven children -- five brothers and a sister. In 1952, she married Weyman B. Lee of Rocky Ford, who died in 2001 after 49 years of marriage.

A devoted wife and mother, she lived life with strength and determination, and taught her children and grandchildren to do the same. The Screven County native lived much of her early life on the farm and learned at a young age that hard work is a necessary part of life. It was a lesson she never forgot. She and her husband moved to Waynesboro in the mid-1950s, where they raised their children.

She worked for several years as a bookkeeper at Burke Truck & Tractor in Waynesboro. Then, she joined former Sheriff Gregory T. Coursey's staff as he began his first term in office. She was a bookkeeper there until she retired nearly 30 years later.

Active in church activities for much of her life, she joined Rosemont Heights Baptist Church in its infancy in the 1960s and served there for decades. She taught the Ruth Sunday School class for years. When she moved to Alexander in the early 2000s, she became an active member of Bethel Baptist Church for several years. At the time of her death, she was a member of Botsford Baptist Church.

Survivors include her children, Angela Diane Lee, and Janet Elaine Lee and Tony McDaniel of Alexander; her grandchildren, Emily Elaine "Lainey" McDaniel and Garrett Anthony and Tracy Dawn McDaniel of Alexander; her great-grandchildren, Allison Elaine "Alli" McDaniel and Noah Jarrett Smith of Alexander, and Hannah Dawn Smith of Augusta; her great-great-granddaughters, Anna Michelle and Jesse Lynn Smith of Augusta; a brother-in-law, Lynn Lee (Barbara) of Rocky Ford; sisters-in-law, Florrie Bazemore of Sylvania, Evelyn Bazemore of Statesboro, Dot Lee of Dublin and Frances Lee Hankinson (Jimmy) of Rocky Ford; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved friend for more than 60 years, Peggy Skinner of Waynesboro.

Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 4, at DeLoach-McKerley-Prescott Funeral Home in Waynesboro. The funeral will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mike Dann and Gregory T. Coursey officiating. Burial will be at Burke Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Rob Crockett, Jon Crockett, Larry Lewis, James Evans, Dr. Frank Carter and Bill Russell.

Flowers are welcome, but the family suggests remembrances be made to the Rosemont Baptist Church Building Fund or Botsford Baptist Church.
