Girard, GA - Eloise Buxton Jenkins, 101, died Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at Kentwood Nursing Home in Augusta, GA.She was born on July 7, 1909 in Girard, Georgia.She was a member of Trinity on the Hill Methodist Church in Augusta.She was a florist and flower arranger.Her accomplishments were numerous: served as State PTA President and served two terms as Mayor of Girard, Georgia and was instrumental in the construction of a new water and sewage system as well as developing sidewalks for Girard.She was a member of various garden clubs and was a two-term president of the Creative Study Garden Club and director of the Azalea District of the Garden Club of Georgia. She was appointed by Governor George Busbee to the Georgia Peace Officers and Standards In-Training Council and served from July 1, 1981 until 1985.She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Martin Jenkins, and son, Ted Buxton Jenkins.
She is survived by her daughter, Gloria J. Jenkins; her son, Samuel Jenkins and wife, Nell; her grandchildren, Greg Jenkins (Elora), Stan Jenkins (Ginger), Art Jenkins (Gay), Susan Jenkins Reynolds (Tommy), Jan Jenkins Carter (Jack), and Ted Jenkins, Jr. (Carla); thirteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 6, at the funeral home.
The Memorial Service will follow visitation at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Sam Vernon officiating.Interment will be private.
