Waynesboro, GA - Elizabeth Montgomery Stephens, 94, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2009, at Brentwood Terrace Health Center.She was the only child of Frances Smith Montgomery.Frances was later married to Dave C. Williams of Waynesboro.Elizabeth was born December 20, 1914 in McMinnville, Tennessee.She lived most of her life in Waynesboro.She was preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) A. Stephens.
Elizabeth was a graduate of the University of Georgia and taught Home Economics for three years.She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and a dedicated Army wife during Lt. Colonel Stephens' career.She was a charter member of Rosemont Heights Baptist Church, where she taught girls in G.A.'s for many years.She was a member of the Sunshine Class.
Her children are Edwin Stephens (Jeanie) of Waynesboro, Frances Porter of Deltona, Florida, and David Stephens (Donna) of Roanoke, Alabama.She is also survived by six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, May 23, at 3:00 p.m. at Rosemont Heights Baptist Church, Waynesboro.Rev. Keith Alderman and Rev. Melody Porter, Elizabeth's granddaughter, will be officiating.Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Gardens, Waynesboro.Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Rosemont Heights Baptist Church.
