Maxine was born on July 2, 1926 in Wichita, KA. A graduate of Hephzibah High School, Maxine married her high school sweetheart, H. Cal Johnson, when he returned from World War II. Establishing their home in Waynesboro, Cal and Maxine celebrated 53 happy years of marriage. She began her career in banking with the Bank of Waynesboro and retired after many years in the Bookkeeping Department. She enjoyed camping with her husband and family, reading and crafting, especially sewing dolls, and will be remembered for the many lovely dolls she created. Maxine and her family were members of the First Baptist Church of Waynesboro for many years and later in life she became a member of Rosemont Baptist Church.
Maxine is preceded in death by her parents, Laurie and Hazle Gibbs; her husband, H. Cal Johnson; her son, Hugh C. Johnson, Jr.; her daughter, Dorothy (Dottie) Johnson; her sister, Doris Durand; and her brothers, Laurie Gibbs, Jr. and Dean Gibbs.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Shirlee Johnson; and two grandsons, Brad Johnson (Jessica) and Ben Johnson (Stephanie)
