Doris Kitchens Thomas
May 27, 1919 — December 7, 2010
Ms. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell "Rooster" Thomas, and son, Jim Anderson. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Doris grew up in Gough, GA. A lady of many accomplishments, she attended the University of Georgia where she gained a degree in Home Economics. She taught school in Jefferson County for several years before going to work for the University of Georgia Home Economics Extension Service in Jefferson County where she became well known and much loved by all the children and adults she came in contact with. She formed the Home Makers club where she provided the local ladies with education, fun, and fellowship. She worked there for many years until retirement.
Doris was a member of the First Baptist Church of Louisville since 1960. An active member and teacher of the Fidelis Sunday School Class, she also taught the Phileatha Sunday School Class. Her enthusiasm for the children of the church was shown by leading the children's choir. She also substituted as pianist when needed. Doris was very active in the WMU, Missions, and Lottie Moon.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010 at DeLoach-McKerley Funeral Home.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 am on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010 at the funeral home. Pastor Larry Montgomery will officiate. The committal service will follow at Burke Memorial Gardens.

Doris loved people, life, and laughter and will be greatly missed.
