SARDIS, Ga. - Dora W. Edmonds, retired homemaker, died on October 27th, 2012 after an extended illness.
She exemplified a life bursting with hope as a cheerful friend to many, a faithful member of the Sardis Baptist Church, a loving wife of 63 years to her husband, J.W., a devoted mother of four children, grandmother of ten, and great- grandmother of eight. Mrs. Edmonds was born March 2nd, 1931, to Pearl and William Whatley in Sturgis, Mississippi (Oktibbeha County). As a strong advocate for education, she impacted the lives of many students while in service at S.G.A. High School. Her favorite interests included flowers, sewing, crafts, dolls, and filling her house with pictures and mementos of her family. Mrs. Edmonds was regarded as a sincere Christian woman who would give of herself unselfishly to others and always had time to listen to your problems and offer encouragement. She understood the meaning of sacrificially investing in people and was quick to laugh with you to the top of her voice if you were happy as well as cry along with you during sadness while always pointing to a better day tomorrow. Her tireless pursuit of excellence in the lives of her family and her undying commitment to see them succeed serves as a hallmark for all parents to emulate.
Mrs. Edmonds is survived by her sister, Billie F. Whatley Pommier of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, her daughter, Cynthia Lewis (Buster) of Valdosta; her son, Johnny Edmonds (Carol) of Sardis; her daughter, Angie Brinkman (Alan) of Augusta; and her son, Bill Edmonds (Denise) of Huntsville, AL.
