Hephzibah, GA- Donald "Don" Self, 73, entered into rest Monday, February 23, 2015 at Burke Medical Center following a long illness. He was born in Richmond County on February 27, 1941 to the late Marion R. Self and Kathryn Self. He retired after 34 ½ years from Olin Chemical, Augusta. He also worked for the Burke County Sheriff's Department for over 10 years. Don was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Hephzibah (Burke County). He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #274 in Waynesboro and was Worshipful Master in 1973. He was also a member of Alexander Lodge #385 in Sardis where he was currently Worshipful Master. Don was preceded in death by a son, Donald Self, Jr.; and a brother, Thomas Self.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Harriet Self; a daughter, Tammy Self Cain (Brian) of Girard; a son, Stacy Self (Kim) of North Augusta; 6 grandchildren, Bianca Cain Johnson (Justin) of Grovetown, Mira Cain of Girard, Lacey Myers (Michael) of North Augusta, Chasity Wheeles (John) of Rincon, Christi Lynn Perry (Jason) of Waynesboro, and James Self, Jr. (Kristan) of Pooler; 10 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Terry Self (Donna) of Waynesboro; 2 sisters, Carolyn Mallard (John) of Wilmington, NC and Helen Key of Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Wednesday, February 25 at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held 2pm Thursday, February 26 at the funeral home. Rev. Craig Hutto and Rev. Jerry Sharpe will officiate. Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Gardens with Masonic Rites. Pallbearers will be Wayne Buxton, Jimmy Allen, Bill Babb, Rusty Rowell, Woody Hayes, and Curt St. Germaine. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Bonnie Jenkins and nursing staff at Burke Medical Center.
