Gough, GA. - Charles Sidney Myers, Jr., 73, died Friday, September 16, 2011 of natural causes.He was born in 1938 in Birmingham, Alabama.After graduation from West End High School in 1956, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps.Upon discharge, he worked as a helicopter mechanic and police officer in Brighton and Birmingham, Alabama.He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1968, and then completed graduate studies at Renssellaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York.After working for McDonnell-Douglas aircraft company, he began a career with The Southern Company in Birmingham, Alabama.

While living in Alabama, Myers also taught English and Technical Writing at the University of Alabama, and worked part time as a reserve Deputy Sheriff for Jefferson County under Sheriff Melvin Bailey, and enlisted in the US Army National Guard - 20th Special Forces Group.

In 1982, Myers moved to Waynesboro, Georgia for the construction of Units 1 & 2 of Plant Alvin W. Vogtle.He served in the Georgia National Guard and the US Air Force Reserves, retiring in 1997 as a Senior Master Sergeant.After retiring from Southern Nuclear Operating Company in 2000, he worked as a paralegal, an instructor at Augusta Technical Institute, a Deputy Jailer for the Burke County Sheriff's Office, and last as a volunteer at the Burke County Magistrate Court under Curt St. Germaine and the late Alvin Bell.

He is survived by a son: Rex T. Myers; sister:Judy Fields and her husband Jim, of Gardendale, Alabama; and 3 dogs.

At his request, memorial shall be by cremation.
