Sardis-Mr. Charles E. Hight, 88, entered into rest Thursday, July 4, 2019, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was a native of Sparta, Georgia and a longtime resident of Sardis. He was a retired United States Navy Chief, after his retirement, he operated Hight's Shop in Sardis for many years. He was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty C. Hight.
Surviving are his daughters, Joy H. Cannon and husband Tommy of Charleston, SC, Cherrie H. Runkle of Sardis, and Susan H. Holland and husband Rusty of Monks Corner, SC; his brother, Johnny Hight of Huntsville, AL; his sisters, Mary Evelyn Devereaux of Destin, FL, and Peggye Sewell of Petal, MS; his grandchildren, Lisa Dojan and husband Doug of Sardis, and Jessica McDonald of Newington, CT; his great grandchildren, Brianna Dojan and Taylor Dojan; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, July 6, 2019, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at DeLoach-McKerley-Prescott Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, July 7, 2019, at the Sardis Baptist Church with the Reverend Nick Bates and Reverend Jimmy Napier officiating. Burial will follow in the Sardis Baptist Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
Active Pallbearers will be James Eastmead, Fred Roberts, Bryan Patterson, Mike Chandler, Randy Chandler, and Josh Chandler.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Val Prescott, Preston Conner, Alex Brigham, Ray Chandler, Jimmy Dixon, Grady Mobley, Jut Wynne, Roy Chandler, Bud North, Lynn Deriso, James Gordy, and Bob Mallard.
