Cardell "Sidney" Williams, age 69, of Sardis, GA began his earthly journey on July 28th, 1945 completed that journey on July 5th, 2015 and entered his eternal home. From an early age, Sidney had a love for sports and developed a talent of excelling in football at Jenkins Co. High School in the early 1960's which earned him a full athletic scholarship to Clemson University in SC. He declined in order to continue his career desire of following his father in the craft of carpentry. One of the first members of Carpenters Local #283 in Augusta to work at Plant Vogtle, he also served as Union President for many years. His pride in carpentry afforded his service as an apprentice instructor at Augusta Tech. Before his health failed, he was an active member of Sardis Baptist Church and participated in many ministries including Kairos and Emmaeus. Sidney took special pride and joy in providing handheld crosses for those events and to anyone who desired one. He also took pride in being a participant in the construction of the Sardis Gazebo. He often remarked at how fortunate he was to have so many very close friends.
Sidney will be remembered as a man who never met a stranger, joy in his heart and a laugh to share followed by a testimony of one who made the best life possible despite many health issues.His immense love for his wife, children, grandchildren and family was profoundly evident as most important, second only to his love for his Lord and Savior.
Sidney was preceded in death by his parents, Cardell and Bertha Williams, a brother, Calvin Williams and sister, Doyce W. Godbee. Survivors include his wife of 45+ years, Angeline Oliver Williams; two daughters, Johna V. and Leigh W. Moore, one son, Cardell S. "Casey" and wife, Jennifer; two grandchildren, Ansleigh C. Moore and Zane C. Williams; a brother, Carroll (Joyce) Williams, brother-in-law, Jasper Godbee, two sisters- in- law, Virginia O. Mallard and Cindy Williams, with numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at Sardis Baptist Church on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests a contribution to one's chosen charity.
