Willie Bycel Daniel

September 16, 1941 — April 21, 2025

Willie Bycel Daniel, 83, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2025. He was the devoted husband of Suzanne Fleming Daniel for over 61 years and a lifelong resident of Waynesboro, Georgia. Born on September 16, 1941, to John Howell Daniel and Mary Pearl Holland Daniel, Bycel was a proud native of Waynesboro, GA. He attended Waynesboro High School before joining the U.S. Marine Corps in 1959. After completing his military service, he began a long and dedicated career with Procter & Gamble in 1964, where he worked for 32 years before retiring in 1996.

A lifelong Southern Baptist, Bycel was a faithful member of Rosemont Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon Emeritus. For more than 60 years, he and Suzanne gave generously of their time and hearts to the church community. Bycel especially loved his role as Sunday School Director and found joy in working with the youth group—often taking them water skiing at Clark Hill Lake. His service extended beyond the church; in the late 1980s and early 1990s, he served as President of the Burke County High School Bears Booster Club, supporting the Burke County Bears with his signature warmth and commitment.

Bycel’s greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Suzanne; his children, Ronald Bycel Daniel (Karen), Deneen Daniel Watson (Mike), and Brenda Daniel McCrary (Fielding); six grandchildren, Adam Bycel Daniel (Katie), Kelly Elizabeth Daniel, Ellen Lindsey Griffin, Kate Suzanne Giovengo (Michael), Elizabeth Suzanne McCrary, and Julianne Avis McCrary; two great-grandchildren, Charles Bycel Daniel and Kennedy Annette Giovengo; two brothers, Thomas Edward Daniel (Elaine) and Larry Wayne Daniel (Glennis); and brother-in-law, Daniel Everett Whitton (Carla.)

Bycel was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Howell Daniel, Jr.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25, at Rosemont Baptist Church in Waynesboro, with Reverend Harley Rollins, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will include Mike Watson, Adam Daniel, Michael Giovengo, Marty Daniel, Brian Daniel, and Mark Daniel.
