Brenda Johnson McBride went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 6, 2022. She died peacefully at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Thomas Everett McBride, Sr. Brenda was the beloved daughter of the late Edgar Arlington Johnson and Florrie Daniel Johnson. She was the youngest of six siblings, Mary Alice Lewis, Tom Johnson, Edna Johnson Frye, Jack Johnson and Lt. Col. Frank Tinley all preceding her in death.
Brenda was a born September 20, 1943 in Burke County where she continued to make her home with her husband Everett and their three children. She was a woman of strong faith and was an active member of the Bethel Associate Reformed Presbyterian church where their family faithfully attended. She was a stay at home wife and mother. After raising her family, she went back to school to pursue a degree in Sociology. She was a nurturer and encourager by nature and would use these gifts to encourage many in her successful and fulfilling years as an addiction counselor.
Brenda, with an armor of faith began her career working at the Ogeechee Behavioral Health Adolescent Center in 1990. This residential center was a beacon of hope for many adolescents, where she touched many lives with her soft-spoken guidance. She, through her own lived experience, became a voice in Georgia and an advocate for those individuals seeking treatment. Her career also included working with Care Partners of Georgia in an innovative school/community/home-based service known as intensive family intervention. Brenda was one of the first graduates of the Certified Peer Specialist certification process in Georgia. She promoted hope, personal responsibility, empowerment, education, and self-determination in the communities she served. Brenda also engaged in countless private interactions helping others find peace both during and following her career.
Upon retirement and the loss of her husband, Brenda moved to Evans, Georgia where she attended Warren Baptist Church. She became involved in her church community and was an active member of many bible studies. She enjoyed time spent with dear friends old and new. These sweet friendships were a treasure to her.
Brenda was survived by her three children and their spouses, her granddaughter and grandson-in-law and three grandsons. Spending time with her family was where she found the most joy. She considered her family to be her greatest blessing. She was a loving and supportive mother and grandmother. Her love, abundant laughter and encouraging words will be greatly missed.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00pm Friday, December 9 in the funeral home chapel. A private burial service will follow at Rose Dhu Cemetery.
