Betty Lewis Palmer

July 9, 1925 — February 14, 2016

Waynesboro, GA- Betty Lewis Palmer entered into rest at her residence on February 14, 2016, at age 90. Betty Palmer was born on July 9, 1925, to the late Clifford Gray McElmurray and Preston Brooks Lewis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Campbell Palmer, Jr.; sister, Clifford Gray Lewis; brother, Preston Brooks Lewis, Jr.; and two sisters-in-law, Katherine Lewis and Isabel Edmond.

Mrs. Palmer was educated in Burke County Schools. She attended the University of Georgia, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She was a member of Waynesboro First Baptist Church and was a former member of Waynesboro First United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a son, Jesse Campbell Palmer, III (Carol Hughs) of Waynesboro; a daughter, Pamela Palmer of Augusta; five grandchildren, Jesse Campbell Palmer, IV (Christy) of Waynesboro, Ashley Palmer Poteet (Greg), Nan Palmer Lynch (Brad), Katie Palmer Hummel all of Augusta, and Brooke Hummel Shull (Mike) of Louisville, KY; ten great grandchildren, Payton and Camp Palmer; Reid, Cannon, Brody, and Jude Poteet; Perrin and Jet Lynch; and Harper and Corbet Shull. She is also survived by a step-brother, Robert Edmond and a number of nieces and nephews. Three loving caregivers will always be remembered; Lea Sapp, Patricia Jones, and Camelia Lewis.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 17 at 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Waynesboro with Dr. G. Al Wright, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Roy Chalker, Irby Cochran, Dr. Charles Coleman, Dr. Charlie Green, Dr. Shelley Griffin, Henry Hopkins, Jeff Palmer, and Chris Sylvester.

The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers the family request that contributions be made to First Baptist Church, 853 North Liberty Street, Waynesboro, GA 30830 or to First United Methodist Church, 802 Liberty Street/ PO Box 420, Waynesboro, GA 30830.
