Betty Jean Brantley Mallard, 80, went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, October 25, 2024. She was born in Milledgeville to the J.K. and Gladys Purser Brantley and has been a longtime resident of Burke County. She worked many different jobs throughout her life, driving the EBA Sardis/Girard school bus, owning and operating the Sears and Roebuck Catalog Store in Waynesboro, keeping books for several local businesses, and retiring from Samson’s Manufacturing after over 30 years of service. Betty Jean enjoyed working in her yard growing flowers, especially roses and petunias. Christmas was her favorite time of year, giving to her family and friends, and her home was filled with as many images of Santa Claus as she could find. You would never get into her car that the radio was not tuned into the Elvis Presley channel on XM radio; because to her, he was the greatest singer ever. She greeted everyone with her bright smile and was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Thomas Douglas Mallard, Sr.; a sister, Jeanette Brantley Glisson; and a daughter-in-law, Judy Evon Lovett Mallard.
She is survived by three sons, Thomas Douglas Mallard, Jr., Robert “Bob” Eugene Mallard (Shelley), and David Brantley Mallard (Jamie); eight grandchildren, Nicky Nicole Vaughn, Thomas Douglas Mallard III, Justin Phillip Mallard, Chelsa Renee Moore, Mary Elizabeth Mallard, Sarah Ann Mallard, Aubery Elizabeth Mallard, and Brylie Lane Mallard; eight great grandchildren; a brother, Roman Brantley (Maxie); a brother-in-law, John Glisson; many nieces and nephews; and her three large fur babies, Millie, Bella, and Zero.
Memorial Services will be held 11:00am November 2 at Botsford Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Dann officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Remembrances may be made to Botsford Baptist Church.
