Waynesboro, GA. - Mrs. Barbara H. Miller, age 101, passed away on Aug 19, 2013 in Atlanta after a short illness.Mrs. Miller was born on July 15, 1912 in Richmond County.She was one of 7 children born to Winton Andrew Hair and Laura Hair.Mrs. Miller grew up in the Augusta area. She married Paul W. Miller in 1932 shortly after Mrs. Miller's sister Nellie married Paul's brother, Ernest.Mr. and Mrs. Miller raised 2 children in the Greens Cut community of Burke County, Allen Miller of Tampa, Florida and Joyce Miller Burdette of Atlanta. They were long time active members of the Greens Cut United Methodist Church.Mr. Miller worked most of his career at the Veterans Hospital in Augusta. Mrs. Miller worked primarily in the home but was also employed at Goldberg's dept store and Blount's grocery in Waynesboro.Mr. Miller died in Oct of 1988.In 1997, Mrs. Miller moved to Atlanta to be closer to her daughter.Mrs. Miller was active in the church including singing in the choir throughout her life and was also an avid seamstress and cook.She and other members of the church contributed recipes to and published A Cut Above, a recipe book created as a fundraiser for Greens Cut Church.
Mrs. Miller is survived by her daughter, Joyce; son, Allen and his wife Mary Lou; 4 grandchildren, Russ Miller of Laramie, Wyoming, Janet Miller and her husband Ali of Boston, Mass, Walter Lovett, Jr., and Lisa McDaniel and her husband Tim both of the Atlanta area. She is also survived by 4 great grandchildren, Kelly, Kevin, and Ryan McDaniel of Atlanta, and Mimi Ben of Boston, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday August 23 at Greens Cut United Methodist Church. Reverend Jerry Sharpe will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 pm until the start of the service. Interment will follow at Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in McBean, GA. Pallbearers will be Johnny Miller, Harold Miller, Marvin Miller, Donald Miller, Oscar Rhodes, and Emmit Rhodes. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald Miller, Earl Rhodes, and Elwood Rabun.
