Audrey Mcelhannon Hess

June 29, 1942 — April 14, 2020

Audrey McElhannon Hess, 77, entered into rest Tuesday, April 14 2020. She was a native of Georgetown, SC and has been a resident of Burke County since 1988. She was very outgoing and never met a stranger. She was one of the first volunteer female firefighters in SC. Audrey was a member of Gough Baptist Church; she loved her dogs, to dance, and to play cards and games. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leila Elizabeth and Tom Watson McElhannon; her husband, Allen P. Hess, Sr.; and her sister, Mary Elizabeth McElhannon.

She is survived by her children, Thomas A. Hess (Holli) of Chattanooga, TN and Elizabeth Hess Murray (Travis) of Casselberry, FL; two grandsons, Zachary Hess and Elijah Hess both of Chattanooga, TN; six step-grandchildren, Gwenda, Courtney, Leslie, Nina, Dylan, and Danyel; and a brother, Joe Tom McElhannon (Ellie) of Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Private Graveside Services will be held at Rose Dhu Cemetery with Pastor F.L. Holloway officiating.

Memorials in memory of Mrs. Hess may be made to Gough Baptist Church or the local humane society.
