Waynesboro – Aubrey C. "Bubba" Mathis Jr., 68, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2019, in Cross, South Carolina.
Bubba was born on February 27, 1951 in Waynesboro, Georgia to the late Aubrey C. Mathis Sr. and Carolyn M. Mathis. He was a lifelong resident of Burke County, a retired Maintenance Engineer from Pray-On, and he even self-proclaimed himself as the Mayor of McBean on the Burke County side. Bubba died as he lived, surrounded by friends and living life full throttle. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and an excellent cook. Bubba loved his family and friends with unconditional love. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by Grandmother Meeker.
He is survived his wife of 35 years, Lisa H. Mathis of Waynesboro; three sons Tommy Mathis and Jason "Jaybird" Mathis both of Waynesboro, Todd (Cindy) Mathis of Hartwell; a daughter Kallie (Jonathan) Palmer of Decatur; five grandchildren, Austin Mathis and Patience Mathis both of Waynesboro, T.J. Kaszas of Augusta, Blake Mathis and Luke Mathis both of Hartwell; sisters, Deborah Olyowski of Augusta and Miriam Hilburn of Waynesboro; several nieces, nephews and numerous friends.
Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. in the Deloach-McKerley-Prescott Funeral Home Chapel with Greg Coursey and Rev. Steve Sirmons officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. the day of the service.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Raymond DeLaigle, David Hargrove, Bill Hargrove, Fred Hargrove, David McCary, Jonathan Palmer, Steve Scott, Beau Barns, Jed Menger, Ken Autry, and K.O. Lively.
