Dean was laid to rest Tuesday Jan. 7th after a 16 month battle with cancer. Born in Southern Pines, NC on June 5th, 1959, he left his worldly home to be with his Saviour on Jan. 3rd, 2025.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold Kincade Campbell and Shirley Dixon Campbell. Dean is survived by his siblings, Emory Todd Campbell (Cile), Sherrie Kay Campbell (Jeff), and Rodney Kincade Campbell (Emily). Dean left behind his partner, Amanda Wilcox and her children Brian, Brandon, Jacob, and Jared Wilcox.
Dean retired from Koyo Bearings in Sylvania, GA after 45 years of employment. Never afraid of work, he also raised registered Landrace, Hampshire, and Duroc swine during his early years of employment, later he raised thousands upon thousands of Northern Bobwhite quail, as well as many litters of Bluetick Coonhounds. Those of which won many trophies and titles from competition coonhunting, Dean was featured in Coonhound Bloodlines, the leading publication in competition hunting.
Dean was a voracious reader always in search of the best information on precision rifles, trapping techniques, and gardening. Although he yearned for the most current techniques of his interests, he preferred to use techniques that he learned from his parents and grandparents. His family always proclaimed Dean was born 100 years too late. He always thought the best way to raise animals or to have the best garden was to use a hands on method, putting his hands on every pig, quail, pup or each plant that he grew. It was hard to argue with his success.
Dean’s close friend Robin Elliott performed his funeral service as well as baptizing him in the waters of Still Branch that runs through Dean’s family property. Instead of burial in a cemetery, Dean chose to be buried on this property. He stated he knew his family would always come to enjoy the property and that way they would always be able to stop and spend time with him.
Honorary pallbearers included his nephews, Flynt and Brynt Campbell, Casey Caldwell, River Campbell, and niece Courtney Caldwell, as well as Brian, Brandon, Jacob, and Jared Wilcox.
It truly saddens his family and friends that the man born 100 years too late won’t be here for a 100 years more.
