Annette Herndon Jenkins, 94, beloved wife of the late F. Leslie Jenkins, Jr. of Sardis, Georgia went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, January 8, 2021, at her residence.
Annette was born on May 26, 1926 in Ehrhardt, South Carolina to the late Clyde and Nettie Herndon.She graduated in 1947 from The Georgia State Womans College of Valdosta, Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts degree.In 1948 she received secretarial training in Atlanta.She taught sixth grade at SGA before she married and moved to Atlanta.
Annette accepted the Lord at an early age and served Him faithfully her entire life.She was an active member of Sardis Baptist Church, serving in many roles throughout the years.She taught Sunday School from the cradle to senior adults.She lived out her passion for missions through her church, association, state, and worldwide.She shared the gospel throughout the state of Georgia and on mission trips to Russia, Germany, and Panama.She and Leslie developed a supportive relationship with an evangelist, Gabriel (who became like a son), and his family in India that blessed them and provided opportunities for many to come to the Lord.Her life goal was to be more like Jesus everyday and to make an eternal impact on the lives of those around her.
Annette was a dedicated mother to her children Barry Jenkins, Sardis; Phyllis Jenkins, Martinez; Albert (Ruth) Jenkins, Charleston, SC; and Les (Sheila) Jenkins, Sardis.She took delight in her grandchildren Amy Jenkins, Andrea (Nathan) Ellison, Cassie Jenkins, Matthew Jenkins, Amanda (Dave) Marancik, Jenni (Joe) Lairscy, Austin (Katelyn) Jenkins, Jessi (TJ) O'Connor, Jaimee (Dillon) Stuart, Joseph Jenkins, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.She was blessed with sisters-in law Cheryl Cato, Cora Herndon, Hope Herndon, and the late Helen Herndon.She was preceded in death by her grandson, Daniel Jenkins and her two brothers, Thomas Clyde Herndon and George Washington Herndon.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, January 16 at 12:00 at the Sardis Baptist Cemetery.Due to Covid19, masks and social distancing protocols are recommended.Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be given in her honor to Sardis Baptist Church.
