Gough, GA - Mr. Allen P. Hess, Sr., age 79, entered into rest Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center Downtown Division in Augusta. He was born on June 4, 1937, in Clearfield, PA to the late Alfred P. Hess and Ida M. Hess. He moved to Burke County in 1988. Mr. Hess worked in the construction field for most of his life. He was member of Gough Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and enjoyed singing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Lee Hess and three siblings.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Audrey McElhannon Hess; four children, Allen P. Hess, Jr. (Christie) of Pennsylvania, Kenneth B. Hess (Brenda) of Pennsylvania, Thomas A. Hess (Holli) of Tennessee, and Elizabeth M. Hess Murray (Travis) of Florida; eight grandchildren, Gwenda, Courtney, Leslie, Nina, Dylan, Danyel, Zachary, and Elijah; several great grandchildren; three brothers; four sisters; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 3:00pm-5:00pm Saturday, March 25 at DeLoach-McKerley-Prescott Funeral Home and from 2:00pm-3:00pm Sunday, March 26 at Gough Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00pm Sunday, March 26 at Gough Baptist Church with Pastor F.L. Holloway officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Dhu Cemetery in Vidette. Pallbearers will be Travis Hess Murray, Chris Mobley, Juan Ochoa, William Bessant, Michael Utley, and Don Quick.

Memorials in memory of Mr. Hess may be made to Gough Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.
